P Transformers

The P(ot) core was the first type of ferrite cores to be used for filter chokes in telecommunications. As for the RM types, there is a complete and standardized range from P9 thru P66 (IEC 133). P cores are available with different AL values. The core practically completely encloses the windings, thus creating an optimal magnetic shield. Additionally, there are also special metal shieldings available for those cases requiring ultimate magnetic protection. The 'slots' are generally narrow which makes assembly and installation difficult. This core type is recommended exclusively for specific applications requiring optimal magnetic shielding. For all other cases, the use of e.g. RM cores is advisable.
